Rifle stolen from Craighead County deputy's car

JONESBORO (AP) - Authorities in Jonesboro are reviewing security procedures after someone broke into a Craighead County patrol car and stole an M-16 rifle.

Jonesboro police say the theft was reported Tuesday morning at an apartment in the 1100 block of Walkers Place. Officer Chris Perry tells The Jonesboro Sun that someone broke into the patrol car by tearing the off the seal around the passenger window.

Perry says the deputy's SWAT team gear was also stolen, but it was later found behind a nearby apartment.

Craighead County Chief Deputy Rick Thomas says the patrol car has been processed for fingerprints and other evidence as authorities investigate the case.
