LITTLE ROCK (AP) - In 2012, Arkansas Republicans grabbed a majority in the state House and Senate and all congressional seats up for election.

The rise of Republicans in Arkansas was voted the top story in 2012 in Arkansas by Associated Press members.

Bobby Petrino's fall from grace was No. 2. Arkansas' struggle over whether to expand Medicaid eligibility was No. 3, while the drought was No. 4.

The Arkansas Supreme Court's ruling in a major school-funding case was fifth. Attorney General Dustin McDaniel's joining the 2014 gubernatorial race was No. 6, while the failure of a medical marijuana measure was No. 7.

State Rep. Hudson Hallum's resignation was eighth, while the death of Chavis Carter in a Jonesboro police car was No. 9. The closure of Fort Smith's Whirlpool plant was No. 10.

Channel 7's Christina Munoz will have KATV's list of top stories tonight on Nightside.
