JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - Rosanne Cash, Willie Nelson and Dierks Bentley are headlining a concert to raise money to restore Johnny Cash's boyhood home in Dyess.
The concert is set for Friday night at Arkansas State University's Convocation Center in Jonesboro.
The Dyess Colony was established in 1934 as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal program. Arkansas State University, which is restoring Cash's home, says the agricultural resettlement project provided out-of-work farmers with a 40-acre farmstead and a chance to eventually own their property.
Five hundred families participated in the program, including Cash's family, who moved to Dyess in 1935 when Johnny was 3 years old.
The Dyess project also includes the rebuilding of the Colony Center for use as a visitors center.Copyright 2012 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
