SALINE COUNTY (Saline Courier) - A proposed mandatory curbside recycling and one-hauler trash pickup planin five Saline County cities has been dropped for now, in light of strong resistance from members of the public and city officials.
Haskell Mayor Jeff Arey said Wednesday during a special meeting of the Saline County Regional Solid Waste Management District Board that he felt the current plan for the program had left the original intentions for the program. After Arey's speech, the board unanimously voted to drop the curbside recycling project, which was set to go to bid later this summer.
As a result, the two public meetings scheduled to discuss the issue have been canceled.
More details are available in the Friday issue of the Saline Courier.
