Salvation Army opens cooling center for the homeless
By Beth Hunt
The Little Rock Salvation Army is opening its cooling center to help the homeless stay cool during this hot weather. The center opened Monday, following a weekend heat advisory by the National Weather Service. A federal 2013 assessment report found 63 % of Arkansas' homeless do not live in shelters or have access to air conditioning. A Salvation Army spokeswoman says the center will open its doors on days when temperatures could reach triple digits.
