SAU students offer free 'Boo in the Barnyard' event
MAGNOLIA - The fourth annual Boo in the Barnyard will be hosted by Southern Arkansas University Agriculture Club on Halloween. The event offers games, a petting zoo, haunted hallway, face painting and other activities. The event has grown each year, and organizers estimated attendance last year at around 1,000 children. They say it is a safe and fun place to trick or treat Thursday from 4:30-7 p.m.
"We started the Boo in the Barnyard event as a way to get to know the community and for the community to get to know the Agriculture Department. It provides us an opportunity to showcase our students and faculty and provides a safe, entertaining night of trick or treating for the youngsters," said Dr. Jeffry Miller, chair of the SAU Department of Agriculture.
According to Miller, the event was the idea of Carley Calico, who is now an SAU agri alum who is in graduate school pursuing a M.S. in Agriculture Education from the University of Arkansas.
In the event of rain, the Boo in the Barnyard event will be held inside the Agriculture Center and under the pavilion behind the building.
A Trunk or Treat event will be taking place from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Reynolds Center at SAU. The event is hosted by Alpha Phi Omega, and offers SAU organizations the opportunity to hand out trick-or-treat candy to children. Both events are free and open to the public.
