The Save the Children Program has $25,000 more to spend after a donation from Walmart. The contribution will help the program with child literacy - specifically for those who live in poverty-stricken areas.
Amy Fecher is the Arkansas Director for Save the Children. She says those children are more likely to be unable to read at grade level by age nine. That, in turn, decreases their chance of graduating on time.
The donation, presented Tuesday at the main branch of the Central Arkansas Library System, will help Save the Children provide struggling readers with the tools and resources they need to get on track and have a better chance at a successful future.
Save the Children serves 4,420 kids statewide.
Last year in Arkansas, Walmart, Sam's Club, and the Walmart Foundation awarded more than $57.8 Million to local organizations.
