Channel 7 News has confirmed that the North Little Rock High School football team was on a school bus involved in a multiple vehicle accident on Interstate 40. We are told no students were injured, but one of the coaches received minor injuries.
The accident occurred around 4:00 p.m. Thursday at the JFK interchange on I-40 eastbound. A total of seven vehicles were involved, including the school bus, several passenger vehicles, and a tractor trailer.
Of the 115 people involved in the accident, ten were taken to the hospital. There is no information yet about the nature of the injuries or conditions of the victims.
The North Little Rock School District released the following statement:
"We would like to inform all N.L.R.S.D. patrons, parents, students and staff that a N.L.R. Transportation bus was involved in a traffic accident on I-40 east under the J.F.K. overpass from I-30 West. The driver of the bus encountered a sudden traffic jam due to an accident. The driver of the bus attempted to avoid another accident by leaving the roadway. The N.L.R.H.S. football team was on the bus but there were no injuries reported to any player. As a safety precaution, the players were transported back to their training facility at the old Belwood Elementary School for further examination by doctors."
