School choice challenge filed in Pulaski County
LITTLE ROCK —
The State Department of Education is reviewing a lawsuit from three parents in the Forrest City School District.
Tuesday Erika Goodall, Amanda Moffett and Stephanie White filed the suit in Pulaski county over the denial of their requests to transfer their children into a neighboring district.
The women want to transfer their children into the Palestine-Wheatley School District, but the districts and the state said no.
Under the state's school choice law, students can transfer into other school districts - unless a district has exempted itself from the law because of desegregation concerns. Forrest City is one of 23 districts in the state claiming the exemption.
The lawsuit is pending before Pulaski County Circuit Judge Mary McGowan.
