School security guards find gun, loaded magazine in Hall High School student's pockets
LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - A student brought an empty 9mm handgun and loaded magazine to Hall High School Monday.
School security officers found the gun in the front pocket a 16-year-old's hoodie during a random scan. When they searched the student, they found a magazine loaded inside of his gym shorts.
A Little Rock School District (LRSD) spokesperson said, "The gun was not loaded; the student surrendered a loaded magazine. Both were retrieved by LRSD Safety and Security personnel and the student was disciplined according to the LRSD Student Handbook."
After the gun was found, school resource officers performed a scan of every student on campus. No other weapons were found.
LRSD requires quarterly scans of all students on campuses, three random scans of students and two random scans of lockers. Schools can elect to do them more frequently. Hall conducts one random scan of five rooms daily.
The LRSD released this statement: "Please be assured we are constantly working to ensure the safety of the student body, faculty and staff of all students. We will provide you additional information as it becomes available. If you have further concerns or questions, feel free to contact principal, John Daniels, at 501-447-1902."
The suspect's identity has been kept secret because of his age. He was charged with possession of a handgun on school grounds and taken to the juvenile intake facility.
