LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - Focusing on the importance of literacy, students and adults took part in a nationwide campaign called "Read for the record."
The goal was to get as many children and adults together reading the same book at the same time.
Thursday at Meadow Park Elementary, First Lady Ginger Beebe read "Ladybug Girl and the Squad" to 83 kindergartners, first, and second graders. This is the seventh year for "Read for the Record."
The event is sponsored by Jumpstart - a national early education program that serves preschool children in low-income neighborhoods - and the Pearson foundation.
For every free book read at wegivebooks.org, the Pearson Foundation will donate book to a child who needs it, helping to reach the campaign goal of giving a million books by the end of this school year.
