Signs installed on highway honoring dead soldier
MANSFIELD, Ark. (AP) - Transportation workers have installed two signs designating a portion of U.S. 71 in honor of a dead soldier.
The Times Record reports (http://bit.ly/1u45w46 ) 20-year-old Robert Allan Pierce was killed in a suicide-bomber attack on his unit in Afghanistan last year. He joined the Army in 2011.
Members of his family gathered Wednesday along the highway in Mansfield to watch the signs being installed.
Pierce's wife Christian says she hopes the signs will help commemorate her husband's life.
In May, the Mansfield City Council unanimously voted to support the naming of the roadway through Mansfield as Spc. Robert Allan Pierce Memorial Highway. Each sign costs about $300 to purchase and install.
