Spirit of Arkansas Food Drive huge success

LITTLE ROCK - The{}2013{}Spirit of Arkansas Food Drive was a huge success, raising $17,302 and 74,696 pounds of food, the equivalent of over 110.000 meals.

The drive, which ran from December 2-13, included a school competition in addition to the public food drive and{}fundraising telethon.{}People from all across the state dropped off{}non-perishable food or cash donations at{}43{}US Bank locations and made the phones{}light up with generous donations during theKATV Spirit{}of Arkansas{}telethon.{}

All money raised goes to purchase food for Alliance member food banks and hunger agencies.

The school competition consisted of 10 schools that raised over 61,000 pounds of food{}(the equivalent of almost 48,000 meals) that went to food pantries or other hunger agencies in their communities.

The{}top three{}schools{}or school organizations{}that collected the most food received cash awards{}of $1500, $1000 and $500, respectively,{}from Stallion Transportation Group in special pep assemblies today.{}
