St. Vincent, UAMS end merger discussions

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - A proposed merger between two of Arkansas' largest hospital systems was dropped Friday.

TheUniversity of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and St. Vincent HealthSystem said in a joint press release that they had reached the end of their research into a strategic alliance without finding an option both institutions were happy with.

UAMS Chancellor Dan Rahn, M.D., and other UAMS leaders are recommending to theUniversity of Arkansas Board of Trustees that UAMS end negotiations.

While discussions were ended, spokespeople for both groups said they were willing to keep the door open for other ways they could work together in the future.
