State Farm: You can win $25,000 for your Community
(KATV, Source: State Farm) North Little Rock - State Farm is searching all over the United States and Canada for people who want to Cause an Effect by bringing one of 40 $25,000 grants to their community. From February 29 through March 20, the public can visit the Cause An Effect tab on the State Farm Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/#!/statefarm) to submit a Cause for a chance to help make their neighborhood safer, stronger, and better educated.
Cause An Effect is a new, youth-led, crowd-sourced philanthropic initiative that relies on local, non-profit organizations to create solutions to community issues identified by consumers. Cause An Effect invites local residents to submit a Cause via Facebook for a chance to win one of the 40 grants.
"State Farm is committed to helping communities get to a better state," said Arkansas spokesman, Gary Stephenson. "We have a strong spirit of volunteerism and giving in this area, and it will be very interesting to see the ideas, the 'causes' that people living in this area determine to address. We believe the Cause An Effect initiative, can help by motivating more volunteerism and participation, as well as possibly winning one of the 40 grants that will be available."
The State Farm Youth Advisory Board, a diverse group of 30 full-time high school and college students who are passionate about social responsibility, will review the Cause submissions and help State Farm select 100 finalists. State Farm will identify and pair one of the recommended or user-suggested nonprofits with each Cause. These nonprofits will create and execute a plan to address the Cause; the Cause submitter can be as involved as they choose to be in this process.
Once finalists are selected on April 27th, the public will get the chance to rally behind the Cause that means the most to them by voting on the State Farm Facebook page up to 10 times daily until May 17th, when voting concludes. The 40 Causes that receive the most votes will be announced on May 22, and a $25,000 grant will be awarded to the affiliated nonprofits to implement the solution.
"Cause An Effect is empowering our neighbors to bring a $25,000 grant directly to their community," said Stephenson. "The program allows anyone to submit a Cause, the Cause will be linked with a local qualifying non-profit, and they will be able to take action together to address the Cause that will create a lasting Effect."
Stephenson said the qualifying grant Causes must fit into one of State Farm's three philanthropy focus areas of either--education, safety, or community development. Examples of previous grant recipients of State Farm gifts in the LR-NLR area include Arkansas Children's Hospital, Junior Achievement, the American Red Cross, the Little Rock and North Little Rock Mayor's Youth Councils, Economics Arkansas, Argenta CDC, Habitat for Humanity, the Little Rock Fire Department, the Delta Classic for Literacy, the AR Geological Survey's Earthquake Community Education program and others.
