State lawmaker files resolution to honor Teen Jeopardy champ Leonard Cooper

Rep. Warwick Sabin filed a house resolution commending theE-Stem High School senior for winning the Jeopardy! Teen Tournament.

House Resolution 1020 was filed Tuesday and passed the Aging,Children and Youth, Legislative & Military Affairs committee Wednesday. Theresolution now goes to the House.

The 17-year-old has received international attention for hiscomeback victory and humorous final answer. Going into the second day of thetwo day final, Leonard was in last place, but changed his standing when he hita Daily Double question.

Leonard bet $18,000 of his $18,200 total on the Daily Double.{} When he got the answer right, he nearlydouble his total to take the lead.

The Final Jeopardy question was "On June 6, 1944 he said, 'Theeyes of the world are upon you.'" Leonard didn't know the correct answer so hebet nothing and wrote "Who is some guy in Normandy, but I just won $75,000!"{}

He told KATV he wants to use the $75,000 grand prize to payfor college but also to splurge a bit. "Possibly buy a car," said Leonard. "Buy some more musicequipment. I could use a new guitar. You know, new amps new affects pedals. Stufflike that. A pedal board would be cool."
