Sully Says: Hogs don't get "passing" grade

Bret Bielema admitted last week that he wasn't exactly thrilled about being 3 and 2 for the first time in his head coaching career. {}I wonder how he feels about being 3 and 3.

This team has yet to get the message. {}Bret Bielema coached teams don't beat themselves. On Saturday night in the swamp, they helped the Gators with errors in every phase of the game.

One big question going into the game ; Would the SEC's top ranked rushing team be able to run the ball on the country's top ranked rushing defense ? {}Going into Saturday's game, Florida was allowing less than 50 yards a game on the ground.

The answer was yes, for a little over a quarter.

In the first quarter against the vaunted Gator defense, the Hogs had runs of {}9, 10, 12, 19 and 28 yards. {}15 minutes in, and it was clear that the two best backs on the field were Alex Collins and Jonathan Williams. {}

They forced Will Muschamp to go to plan B. His vaunted Gators would defend the Hogs like everyone else. They would load the box and go after Brandon Allen.

It worked.{}

The Hogs longest run in the final 3 quarters was 10 yards and they treated Allen like a pinata. They battered him before and after the whistle. It reminded me, just a little, of the beating Tyler Wilson took in Tuscaloosa.{}

The pressure took a toll on the former Landers Award winner. He was a little off on some throws he normally makes with ease, but he had 3 or 4 catchable balls dropped. {}The best catch on this night was made by a tailback. {}Alex Collins, with two Gators all over him, pulled in a perfectly thrown ball by Allen for a 30 yard gain.

The Hogs were held to one Zach Hocker field goal in the final three quarters.

Defensively, the same old story ; too many open receivers and too many missed tackles. Tyler Murphy didn't post Gary Nova numbers, but he did go 16 for 22 for 240 yards and three touchdowns. {}It would be interesting to see how many of those passing yards came after the catch.{}

There too many " passing" problems on both sides of the ball.{}

One thing we've learned the past three weeks, this team isn't talented enough to overcome multiple self-inflicted errors.{}

Until this team learns to play "Bielema ball", I have a feeling {}that Coach B will continue to have frustrating Saturdays. 3 and 3 could easily become 3 and 4, then 3 and 5 {}then... you get the message. {}There are no sure wins left on the schedule.

It will be interesting to see what happens if , and it's a big if.... The Hogs play a clean game in the coming weeks.{}
