BENTON (KATV)--UPDATE: The suspect in the Summit Bank robbery in Benton this morning has been arrested. The suspect was taken into custody by authorities in Forrest City. Police aren't releasing any further details at this timeThe Summit Bank on Highway 35 North in Benton was robbed at gunpoint this morning and police are still seeking a suspect. They've released surveillance footage in hopes of catching him. This is now the third bank robbery for the city this year.
Police are still trying to connect the dots to see if in fact they are related.
The first bank robbery of the year happened in May at the Bank of Ozarks, that suspect has been caught. The second incident happened in June at the Malvern National Bank, two suspects are still on the loose, and now another suspect is still out on the streets.
Shortly before 10 Tuesday morning, Benton Police responded to an armed bank robbery at the Summit Bank.
The man in this surveillance footage is a white male, about 5' 10" tall wearing a grey Affliction style t-shirt and he appears to have a pony tail. This now makes three bank robberies for Benton so far this year.
"About the last 4-5- years we've started seeing about 2-3 a year, so I'm not exactly sure what the dynamics are behind that," said Lt. Kevin Russell, Benton Police.
This suspect has not been identified yet. Police said no customers were inside at the time although there were several employees. Russell adds, he displayed a handgun in a threatening and violent manner toward a clerk then took off with some cash.
"He was last seen going out of the front lobby area of the bank and they were working on vehicle description at this time," added Russell.
