Susan G. Komen awards $1 million to promote state breast health
LITTLE ROCK (KATV) —
The Arkansas affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure awarded more than $1 million to promote breast health in the state.
The 21 grants awarded totaled more than $1.1 million.
The grant money will be used in 63 Arkansas counties, funding mammograms.
In addition, more than $500,000 was donated to breast cancer research.
"This was our chance to thank many of those volunteers for what they have done, but also to honor those people out in the state who do our work for us, that is our grantees who actually are at that line helping those women who have breast cancer," said Sherrye McBryde, the executive director of the Arkansas Susan G. Komen chapter.
All of the money raised came from Arkansas' annual Race for the Cure event.
