Suspect in recent shooting arrested outside Forrest City nightclub
Officers working to control crowds outside a Forrest City nightclub early Sunday arrested a suspect in a recent shooting.
Patrick Jones, 27, 155 E. Midway, was arrested on several charges, including first-degree battery, in connection with the shooting of Tommy Martez Barber, 27, 261 Laney Dr., Forrest City, on Wednesday, Aug. 3.
Barber was reportedly shot in the right leg about 2:30 a.m., on Wednesday, while visiting relatives at a residence on Sharpe Street. Police were notified of the shooting by officials with Forrest City Medical Center when Barber sought treatment for his injuries.
Barber told police Jones and another subject struck him in the face before Jones allegedly shot him in the leg. Barber told police that after he was shot in the leg, Jones stood over him and "pointed the gun at his head and pulled the trigger several times, but the gun misfired" and the suspects fled.
According to the report, the shooting stemmed from an argument involving families of the victim and suspects.
While arresting Jones, officers found a defaced Ruger SR9c 9mm handgun in his possession.
In addition to the battery charge, Jones is also charged with possession of firearms by certain persons, aggravated assault, engaging in violent criminal group activity and possession of a defaced firearm.
