Sylvan Hills Middle School put on lockdown Monday morning

SHERWOOD (KATV) - Sylvan Hills Middle School was put on lockdown Monday morning as police searched for a gunman nearby after chatter was picked up on a two-way radio.

Officers who would speak with Channel 7 News on the record could not confirm what was heard in that radio transmission but did confirm that no gunman or gun has been found on campus or in the surrounding neighborhood.

No children are at the school today because of the President's Day holiday but there are teachers on campus.

Two-way radios can pick up signals from up to two miles away.
