Teen suspected of shooting gun at school bus stop
(KATV) Friday, Little Rock Police were called to West 15th and Abigail in response to shots fired near a school bus stop. Students were on the bus headed to school.
Sgt. Cassandra Davis said an officer found a spent 9mm casing in the street. A 15-year-old suspect was seen walking on West 14th Street. That suspect was charged with Aggravated Assault, four counts of Terroristic Threatening, and Possession of a Firearm on School Property.
Davis says the handgun that is believed to have been used in the crime, was found at another teen's home. That teen was not charged.
The suspect reportedly did not shoot at the bus, rather in the air.
The following information was sent to Parents at Forest Heights email and phone.
Good Afternoon, Parents:
This morning, four female students who attend Forest Heights reported that a male student fired a gun into the air at their bus stop at 15th and Abigail. The male then left the scene. No students were injured. Students reported the incident to school officials who immediately contacted LRSD Safety and Security officers and the Little Rock Police Department. Parents of the students were called, officers from both departments began an investigation and collected statements from the female students.
As a result of the report from the female students, the student who reportedly had the gun was identified and has been taken into custody by police. He will be disciplined according to the LRSD Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook. The LRPD will also follow through with appropriate actions as per the law.
While this was an unfortunate, isolated incident, we are thankful that it did not result in any injuries. We also are thankful that students reported the incident to school officials immediately. The staff at Forest Heights Middle School is focused on the safety and well-being of all students and staff members. We are determined to do whatever is necessary to maintain a safe and secure learning environment at Forest Heights Middle School.
