TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - A split board of directors has approved a contract for Texarkana City Manager Harold Boldt, despite an ongoing legislative audit on the funding for the city's new convention center and water park.
According to the Texarkana Gazette (http://bit.ly/1hyYgDJ), the board voted 4-3 Monday in favor of Boldt's contract. Mayor Wayne Smith warned board members that they are "putting a fox in a hen house."
Boldt abruptly resigned in March then was rehired during a special meeting last month.
The mayor says he requested the state audit after learning that $584,000 had been moved from a water utility fund into the city's general fund. Smith said the money was later provided to developers of the Holiday Springs Water Park and the Texarkana Convention Center.
Boldt has said he welcomes the audit.
