TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - Completion of a new interchange at Texarkana on Interstate 30 marks the end of 4 separate projects that cost a total of $150 million.
The loop at state Highway 549 was dedicated Tuesday. Highway 549 will be part of future Interstate 49, which is planned ultimately to stretch from the Gulf of Mexico to Canada.
The Texarkana Gazette reports (http://is.gd/UhGEFI ) the new section of road extends Highway 549 from Arkansas Boulevard across I-30 to U.S. Highway 71 north of Texarkana.
State Rep. Prissy Hickerson, a Texarkana Republican and former Arkansas Highway Commissioner, was on hand for the dedication. Hickerson says the state has spent more than $250 million since 2000 on the 30-mile future I-49 segment from the Louisiana border north into Texarkana.
