Tony Alamo followers fill Texarkana court

TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - Close to 100 members of Tony Alamo Christian Ministries showed up in Texarkana for a hearing to address claims to properties a federal judge previously ruled can be sold.

The Texarkana Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1arAxY9 ) that some of the members testified during Friday's hearing.

The ministry members want a federal judge to rethink an order giving the green light to sell six Fort Smith, Ark., properties associated with Tony Alamo to partially satisfy a $30 million judgment he owes two men raised in the controversial group.

Those two men were beaten, starved and denied education.

In 2010, a jury found Alamo guilty of conspiracy, battery and outrage.

Alamo is serving a 175-year federal prison term for bringing children across state lines for sex.
