LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - Logged on and through the first hurdle, Faith Anaya is close to enrolling in the Health Insurance Marketplace.
"Two or more security questions cannot be the same. You must provide different answers," Anaya reads. "I don't think it liked my security questions."
The marketplace opened for business at midnight, but many, like Faith, tried to log-on only to be told the system was first overwhelmed by users, then completely shut down.
Jennifer Chilcoat of the Central Arkansas Library System is one of many assisters available to help folks sign up, but even she can't navigate when the site is this slow. She says it is bogged down for a good reason: a lot of people are interested.
"A lot of people are just curious. maybe a lot of people already have insurance and they're comfortable where they are, but they've heard a lot about it. they want to see what it is. they want to see that those rates look like," says Chilcoat.
For Faith, so close could eventually become too close for comfort
"I am very interested because I only have coverage through December 31st because my plan has been canceled," said Anaya.
In order to get coverage January 1, 2013, she'll have to enroll and make a payment before December 15th. That shouldn't be a problem says Chilcoat who expects the kinks will be worked out in a few days.
"We're starting on a Tuesday. My guess is by the beginning of next week everything will have settled down a little bit and people will be able to go at their leisure or with an in person assister and look at the options that are available," said Chilcoat.
"The first day, I'm actually surprised we got as far as we did because there have to be a lot of people trying to get the information today," said Anaya.
Anaya said she's not upset about the glitches because so many are in the same boat.
"You have to pick what you're going to be upset about. That's the key to good health knowing when to be upset and when not to be," said Anaya.
