(KATV)-Two suspects have been arrested for allegedly robbing two gas stations off Interstate 30, spanning two counties. According to police, Trent Williams, 23 and Zachary Hattabaugh, 23, are being taken to the Saline County Jail, where charges are expected to be filed. The Saline County Sheriff's Office told Channel 7 News that they worked with the Hot Spring County Sheriff's office to make the connection of the two separate robberies. The robberies happened early Friday morning. The first one happened near Malvern at a Shell gas station at around 5:30 a.m. Authorities say later the JJ's truck stop in Saline County was robbed. Authorities said the robberies were similar in nature and also had the same car.
"It doesn't happen every day, but it does happen occasionally where unfortunately people will use the easy access on and off the interstate as a way to rob stores that are close to the interstate," said Lt. Scottie Courtney of the Saline County Sheriff's Office.
The manager of JJ's truck stop, who did not want to appear on camera, told Channel 7 News that a man came into the store, held a gun to an employee's back and forced him over the cash register, taking the money and fleeing. The suspect also fired a shot into the ground, but no one was hurt.
Police say the money stolen from JJ's truck stop has been recovered.
