UA dedicates statue of Frank Broyles

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - The University of Arkansas has dedicated a new statue in honor of longtime athletic director and football coach Frank Broyles.

Hundreds of people gathered Friday to dedicate the statue, which is located in front of the Broyles Athletic Center on the UA campus.

The statue of Broyles is 7.5 feet tall and weighs more than 700 pounds. It was sculpted by Gary Renegar and was based on photos taken of Broyles during his 19-year coaching career at the university.

The ceremony included remarks from UA Chancellor Dave Gearhart, athletic director Jeff Long and Broyles himself.

Broyles says he's lived a "charmed life" and that his time spent at Arkansas was a privilege.

Broyles stepped down as athletic director on Dec. 31, 2007, and now works with the Razorback Foundation.
