UCA releases 2013 football schedule
CONWAY - The University of Central Arkansas Bears will play 12 football games next fall, highlighted by a trip to Boulder, Colo., to face the University of Colorado, and a home date with two-time defending FCS runnerup Sam Houston State.
UCA has six home dates, beginning with the season opener against Incarnate Word on Thursday, Aug. 29. The Bears, undefeated on "the Stripes" at First Security Field at Estes Stadium, end the regular-season with the team with which they shared the 2012 Southland Conference championship, the Sam Houston State Bearkats, on Nov. 23.
UCA finished 9-3 overall and reached the second round of the FSC Playoffs for the second consecutive year last fall. The 2013 schedule facing the Bears features 11 NCAA Division I opponents and one Division II opponent.
"We are pleased with our 2013 schedule, said UCA director of athletics Dr Brad Teague. "We are allowed to play twelve regular season games in 2013 and 2014 and we have six at home and six away both years. This sets up very nicely for our fans and student-athletes..
"We have four of the seven conference games at home this fall with easy trips to non-conference FCS games at Missouri State and UT Martin.'
Missouri State, in Springfield, Mo., is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference. UT-Martin, in Martin, Tenn., competes in the Ohio Valley Conference.
The Bears open with a Thursday night game with SLC newcomer Incarnate Word in a non-conference matchup. UCA then travels to face the Buffs, a member of the Pac 12, at 53,000-seat Folsom Field. The Bears play at UT Martin and at Missouri State to close out the month of September.
UCA welcomes SLC power McNeese State to Conway for the conference opener on Oct. 5, then hosts Division II Nebraska-Kearney on Oct. 12. UCA jumps back into SLC play for good at Lamar on Oct. 19 at Lamar and on Oct. 26 at home versus Stephen F. Austin.
The Bears are on the road at Northwestern State to open November, then hosts Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 8. UCA is at Nicholls State on Nov. 16 before wrapping up the regular season with a shootout against Sam Houston State on Nov. 23 on "the Stripes."
