LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - Around 7,600 Arkansans lost their jobs in March but the state's unemployment rate held steady at 7.2 percent, according to numbers released Friday by the Department of Workforce Services.
Trade, transportation and utilities showed improvement, adding 3,300 jobs. Most of that came from retail trade, which analysts credit to seasonal hiring at building materials and garden supply stores as homeowners get ready for spring cleaning and home improvement projects. The national jobless rate dropped one-tenth of a percentage point to 7.6 percent. AOL Jobs reports the so-called "real" unemployment rate, which includes adults of working age who have simply stopped looking for work, is at 11.7 percent.
