University awarded funds in fight against leukemia
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Science & Technology Authority has awarded $50,000 to an employee at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock to fund his research to develop a cure for leukemia.
The funding for Darin Jones' research comes from ASTA's Basic Research Grant Program. The funds will aid Jones' work, which centers on a molecule found in Ecuadorian plants called dehydroleucodine.
Jones claims that molecule has shown greater resistance to leukemia cells than current forms of treatment being tested in in Phase II clinical trials.Copyright 2014 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
