VIOLET HILL (AP) - Izard County authorities have ended a search for a child who was reportedly seen walking into a wooded area in northern Arkansas.
Chief Investigator Charles Melton with the county sheriff's office said Friday that searchers have found no sign of a child and that door-to-door questioning of residents turned up no missing children.
The search began Thursday afternoon when three people reported seeing an approximately 3-year-old boy walking into the woods near Violet Hill in northeastern Izard County. The search included state Department of Correction search dogs and a helicopter from neighboring Baxter County.
Melton says the three witnesses - all in one home - may have simply been mistaken in what they saw and had no apparent reason to fabricate their report.
