With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, many women are likely looking for ways to lower their risk. A new study now suggests that walking may actually help do that.
Researchers with the American Cancer Society studied data on more than 73,000 postmenopausal women, comparing their breast cancer risk to exercise habits. Those who met the weekly requirement of 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise, had a 25% lower risk than those who did not exercise.
A surprising finding of the study was that walking is linked to a 14% lower risk of breast cancer, even if no other exercise is involved.
