LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - Water in a city ditch near UAMS is red because of a leak.
City Spokesperson Meg Matthews said in a press release Friday that a red dye used by the hospital in their hot water circulation system is the cause of the discoloration in Plateau Ditch near the intersection of Pine/Cedar and Markham streets.
UAMS is trying to find thewater leak.
According to the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), the dye is not toxic or harmful. Under usual operations, the UAMS water circulation systemdoes not connect into the City of Little Rock's storm water system.
