Winter Weather Awareness Week in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Gov. Mike Beebe had proclaimed this week as Winter Weather Awareness Week across Arkansas.

The state Department of Emergency Management is encouraging residents to prepare themselves for wintry weather that can include snow and ice.

Bottled water and foods that don't need to be heated or refrigerated should be kept in homes. Automobiles should be winterized and residents are advised to put in their vehicles items such as blankets, flash lights, water, food and a first aid kit.

Motorists are also advised to carry a shovel, tow rope, cat litter for traction if needed, jumper cables and a windshield scraper.
