Worker killed at Nuclear One identified

RUSSELLVILLE (AP) - Authorities have identified the worker killed in an industrial accident Sunday at Arkansas Nuclear One in Russellville.

Pope County Coroner Leonard Krout says 24-year-old Wade Walters of Russellville died in the accident. According to a Nuclear Regulatory Commission report, Walters died after a 500-ton piece of equipment fell on top of him when "a temporary lift device failed."

Entergy Arkansas, which operates the plant, initially said three other workers were injured. The utility later said that eight workers were hurt.

Entergy said 6 of those eight workers have been treated and released from a hospital.

The accident happened in a turbine building at the plant - away from the plant's two reactors. Authorities say the incident did not put the public at danger.
