Yellville has turkey drop, from window, not plane
YELLVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Turkeys flew at this year's edition of Yellville's Turkey Trot Festival, but not from an airplane.
The turkeys were dropped from a second-floor window of a building on the downtown square.
The festival has drawn criticism from animal rights activists who objected to the custom of dropping live turkeys from a passing airplane. The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals put up a $5,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of participants in the turkey drop.
The Baxter Bulletin reports that two turkeys were dropped on Friday. One was gathered up by a Flippin resident. The other perched on a utility line for more than an hour.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
