BBB's Torch Awards

2017 BBB Torch Awards.

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) -

This week --- Seven-On-Your-Side told you about a business you may want to avoid.

But now we take a look at five companies that would likely do a great job for you.

To recognize these companies that are doing things right, the Arkansas Better Business Bureau enlisted the help of someone who on Sunday is occasionally accused of getting it wrong.

As an NFL referee, Little Rock's Walt Coleman says he is used to being booed.

On just about every call he makes, somebody thinks he blew it.

"It is fun as far as to have the opportunity to be here and be a part of this very positive function where we are recognizing people who are doing things the right way," says Coleman to a crowd gathered inside the Governor’s mansion.

Coleman was the featured speaker at the 2017 Arkansas Better Business Bureau’s Torch Awards.

Five businesses were chosen out of more than thirty nominations as the most customer-focused and trustworthy in the state.

They are DHR Sonic group out of Searcy, Wingard Photography from Gassville, Mr. Sparky in Vilonia, COP Security in Alexander and JPMS Cox, an accounting and consulting firm out of Little Rock.

We asked one of the winners how his company handles customer complaints or concerns.

"Our policy is to always let people know we care,” says Greg Rowden with DHR Sonic Group. “Always accept responsibility and let them know that we make mistakes but we want to do whatever it takes to make it right. And for us our whole mission statement is to honor God. And when you go about that...it is almost impossible to not come across sincere to people because they see that in you and you really have a higher purpose or calling than just to try and get their money."

Again, over 30 Arkansas businesses were nominated for this year's Torch Awards. Some of the winners are members of the BBB, while others are not.

But Walt Coleman would agree they are all making the right calls.

Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson spoke at the luncheon before KATV’s Steve Sullivan gave Walt Coleman a memorable introduction.
