Blind woman says HVAC tech cheated her

A blind woman and her disabled pastor brother claim Jeremy Rupert ripped them off.

SHERWOOD (KATV) - This fall, Jeremy Rupert told Seven-On-Your-Side that he was getting out of the heating and air conditioning business.

But despite his claim, we keep hearing from more angry customers.

Tuesday night, a disabled veteran told us how HVAC contractor Jeremy Rupert took $2,100 from him and never returned.

Now, more disabled victims tell their stories.

Three years ago when Jeremy Rupert was working for his father-in-law, Sharon McKay says he repaired her air conditioner and did a good job.

So, in late October when she needed work done, she called Rupert again.

She gave him $500 for a down payment towards a new unit.

"Most people since I have been blind they have been very nice to me,” says McKay. “You know and...I usually don't do things like this. I'm just...I don't know what happened to me this time. I guess because I had dealt with him you know in the past he was OK. You know, I just kind of trusted him."

About the same time McKay's disabled brother, a former gangster turned pastor, also gave Rupert $750 down to put towards a new heating unit.

In both cases, Rupert failed to return and failed to refund any money.

"I said hey man...let me tell you something,” recalls Robert Staten. “I said I really could have something done to you. But I'm trying to resolve this in the best manner. Because you don't know my background. You don't know where I come from. You don't really know who you're dealing with. He was like...well, well I'm gonna get your money Robert. You ain't gotta do all that. You ain't gotta do all that. I said OK man. Just bring my money. That's all I ask you for is my money."

Warrants for Jeremy Rupert's arrest were issued last week. The 38-year-old is facing hot check and forgery charges.

Rupert is also being sued in civil court by a customer who claims he took nearly $3,500 from her back in July for a new air conditioner. Like the others, she says all she got were broken promises of a refund.

Our attempts to contact Jeremy Rupert since catching him at his mother's home yesterday have been unsuccessful.
