Big Catch Fishing Derby
Little Rock, Ark (August 1, 2017) – The Big Catch Community Fishing & Health Fair promotes family fun and health through the art of fishing. Parents are encouraged to bring their children to the free event at MacArthur Park (9th & Commerce Street) between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2017. This program offers FREE health screenings, food, music and games. In addition to these activities, professional barbers will be on site to offer kids free haircuts. Registration for the event begins at 7:30 a.m. All participants must be registered in order to participate and win prizes. The first 50 children to register will receive a prize.
“I am so excited for this year’s event,” said Gary Casey, Coordinator for The Big Catch. “Last year we had over 1,000 attendees. I look forward to seeing how many families come out to fish and take advantage of the health and wellness vendors that will be present.”
The Big Catch experience focuses on bridging the gap between youth, their families and the community by bringing them together to spend time fishing, having fun and participating in other recreational activities. Some of the sponsors for this event include The Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation, Little Rock Parks and Recreation, Personal Enhancement Mobile, MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, The Knowledge Factory, Zimmermans Bait & Tackle, and New Beginnings Behavioral Health Services.
“The Big Catch event changes the landscape of community outreach and family recreation”, said Clinton Coleman, with the Family and Community Fishing Program with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Participants who get there free tickets before the event from Eventbrite.com are eligible for free door prizes the day of the event.
About The Big Catch
The Big Catch’s mission is to "bring awareness to the benefits of community programming and how it serves inner-city youth and their families while strengthening and building better relationships". The Big Catch supports developing healthy habits as building blocks for overall wellness and a productive life. Furthermore, The Big Catch leadership agrees with the adage, “Teach a person to fish and they will eat for a lifetime.” With that in mind, the experience teaches families how to fish thereby giving a fun, wholesome, and optional avenue to feed their families.
