Arkansas Symphony Orchestra highlights Sturgis Music Academy

Christina Littlejohn the CEO of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra was on Good Afternoon Arkansas Thursday talking about the ASO's new Sturgis Music Academy which provides violin instruction to elementary school children.

Sturgis teaches all 3rd and 4th graders violin during the school day at Bale Elementary. ASO provides the instructors and the instruments. The principal at Bale says 4th grade math scores have improved 30 points.

Sturgis teaches after school at Forest Park Elementary, Fulbright Elementary, and Booker Arts Magnet.

The next ASO concert will be a part of their Intimate Neighborhood Concerts (INC) Series, which are concerts performed in smaller venues (mostly churches) selected for their acoustic characteristics.
