      Apple Pear Crumb Pie, 10/18/13

      Pillsbury Pie Baking Championship

      Karol Zoeller of Little Rock, 1st Place, 2013 Arkansas State Fair

      Crust:

      1 Pillsbury Pet-Ritz Frozen Pie Crust

      Filling:

      3 medium apples, peeled and sliced thin

      3 medium ripe pears, peeled and sliced thin

      1 cup sugar

      1/4 cup flour

      1/4 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg

      1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

      1 teaspoon lemon zest

      1 teaspoon cinnamon

      3 ounces cream cheese, softened

      3 tablespoons butter

      Crumb Topping:

      3/4 cup vanilla wafer crumbs (approximately 24 wafers)

      1/4 cup brown sugar

      1/4 cup butter, cut into small pieces

      1/4 cup chopped pecans

      Mix together the apples, pears, sugar, flour, nutmeg, lemon juice and zest, and cinnamon. Spread softened cream cheese on bottom of the Pillsbury Pet-Ritz pie crust. Pour apple and pear mixture into crust and dot with butter. Mix wafer crumbs, brown sugar, butter and pecans together. Top the pie with crumb topping. Bake at 375 degrees F for 30 minutes, and then cover loosely with foil if needed to prevent over browning and bake for another 30 minutes.

      Yields: 1 pie
