Arkansas Cornbread Festival



1-1/2 cups buttermilk

1 cup Yellow self-rising Cornmeal

Corn oil

Cast-Iron Skillet


1) Heat oven to 425 F

2) Place enough oil in your skillet to cover the bottom on the pan. Put on your skillet on the stove top and set to Medium. Let oil heat up.

3) Mix ingredients in bowl, adjusting the amounts per your preference.

4) Once ingredients are mixed, add to the skillet and let the hot oil start to 'cook' the bottom layer of the cornbread, making it crispy. This is the most important part of the recipe, never skip this step!

5) place skillet in the oven and cook for around 20 Minutes.


This serves 4. If you have a large skillet, double the recipe.
