It's not every day that class is interrupted by a group of people wanting to give you a $2500 scholarship, but that's exactly what happened to Benton High School Senior Austin Wormington.

Austin was nominated for the McLarty Drives Education Scholarship by Assistant Superintendent Lita Gattis. She says Austin exemplifies everything this award stands for: character, academics, and involvement.

"I was just so proud of him, how he fits in with the student body, got involved, basketball, with other students, he seemed to fit."

Austin is a part of the National Honor Society and has helped start two different political clubs.

Austin says he feels humbled to receive this honor and he plans to put that scholarship money to good use.

"Student loans, student debt. It's crazy nowadays and people looking out for students and helping us out is always greatly appreciated."

Austin's goal is to go to law school after college and become a successful attorney.
