Each month this school year, we'll be recognizing students from across the state who are excelling both inside and outside the classroom.

Thanks to the McLarty Automotive group, nine students will receive a $2,500 scholarship.

The Company wanted to do something to impact the community and they thought starting with kids was a great idea.

The first 'McLarty Drives Education' scholarship winner, Lee Burton, was surprised with her $2,500 dollar check during a school assembly.

Burton is a senior at Fountain Lake Charter School in Hot Springs. She has a 3.6 GPA and is involved in many school activities, including an internship where she job shadows the high school principal.

Lee plans to go to college at ASU and study logistics.

Lee says this scholarship will help make her dream a reality.

Only teachers and school administrators can nominate students for this scholarship.

For more information and to nominate someone, go to KATV.com and look for the contest tab at the top of the page and click on McLarty Drives education.
