Newborn blood screening changes proposed
LITTLE ROCK (KATV) —
The state health board wants to change newborn blood screening regulations.
These regulations determine if babies have disorders and are in need of immediate treatment.
The new rules would require hospitals to send samples to the state laboratory within one business day of collection. Currently, the rules allow hospitals to wait up to 48 hours before sending them.
An Arkansas legislative committee will review the new rules. If approved, the proposal will return to the state health board for a final vote.
