Police: 1 dead after overnight shooting in Pine Bluff
Pine Bluff (KATV) —
Police are investigating after a fatal shooting in Pine Bluff Sunday night.
Officers said they were called to Jefferson Regional Medical Center in reference to a shooting victim arriving at the emergency room shortly before 10 p.m.
PBPD say Chauncy Long, 18, was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at JRMC.
Witnesses and a second victim with non-life threatening injuries told officers the shooting occurred in front of an apartment complex in the 5800 block of West Short 3rd in Pine Bluff. Authorities confirm that the other victim, a 17-year-old, was Long's girlfriend.
Police say they later found a vehicle at 6th Avenue and Catalpa Street, more than 2 miles away from where witnesses say the shooting happened. Authorities say shell casings were found in the backseat, along with some drugs. The car and victims from that vehicle were also found by officers at JRMC - both suffering non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators do not believe the shooting discovered there was connected to Long's homicide.
PBPD also responded to a shots fired call around 3:00 AM on Monday, just two houses down from where Long was gunned down. No one was injured in that drive-by shooting. The man who lives in the apartment tells KATV his children were luckily staying else where on Sunday night, or else they would have likely been victims, sleeping inches from where bullets entered the house.
No suspect information is known at this time.
Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call Pine Bluff Police at (870)730-2090 or (870)541-5300.
