62-year-old man shot and robbed at home

KATV

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) -- A 62-year-old man remains in the hospital after police say he was shot and robbed at his home off of John Barrow Road early Wednesday morning.

But Little Rock Police Department says the particular incident is unusual, because most robberies don't involve shootings.

"I'm pretty sure the guy would've given up his stuff if they would've asked him for it instead of [shooting him]," Lt. Michael Ford with LRPD said.

It started off as a normal day for Lester Perry. A police report detailing his early morning start says that just after five, he locked his front door as he was headed to work.

But that's when LRPD says two men approached Perry from behind, shot him, and ran off with his belongings.

"It's really concerning that they did something like that," Ford added.

Even though LRPD has responded to more shootings this year than last, Ford finds this particular incident outright bizarre because the two men not only robbed their victim, but assaulted him, too.

"We haven't got a lot of robberies over there, especially where [victims] are being shot, so it's concerning," Ford said.

After Perry's roommate called 911, police say officers came across the older man wrapped up in blankets and laying on his front porch.

Perry's roommate, who initially heard the gunshot, told police he saw the two robbers take off running.

"He saw some individuals down the street that he could only identify as two black males," Ford added.

But for all the trouble of targeting an unsuspecting victim, the two alleged criminals didn't benefit from what they stole: just Pery's bag, which had his work clothes and medication in it.

LRPD is still on the lookout for the two robbers and is asking for the public's help. If you have any information on this crime or those involved, please call (501) 371-4636.

Lester Perry remains in stable but critical condition at Baptist Health.
