The Ouachita County Sheriff's Office says search warrants have been issued after a 73-year-old woman was found dead with multiple stab wounds.

Authorities tell KATV family members discovered the body of 73-year-old Bernice Nelson at her home, located in the 200 block of South Locust in Bearden, last Wednesday after her sister had not heard from her for four days.

The sheriff's office says Nelson had multiple stab wounds to her chest and at least one to her face.

Her body was sent to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy.

While there is a person of interest in custody, the sheriff's office says a name is not being released since it is not clear whether the person is connected to the crime. Authorities say the person of interest was arrested on a parole violation.

Search warrants were issued Dec. 27 for Nelon's home, the person of interest's home and the person of interest's property at the jail.
