The U.S. and Arkansas state flags will be lowered to half-staff in honor of the late State Sen. Greg Standridge, who died Thursday morning after a battle with cancer.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson issued the order with the flags to remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of interment.

The governor issued the following statement earlier Thursday in regards to Sen. Standridge's death:

I am saddened by the passing of Sen. Greg Standridge—a friend and dedicated public servant. I recently visited with Greg in his home, and even with his illness, he was a source of encouragement and strength. Greg served his community with distinction, and he loved his family most of all. Greg’s passing is a great loss for our state, and he will be missed.
